Artifact I · the course’s relational organization

Relationships made visible.

A hue takes its place in an organized field of color. A duodenary position takes its place in a whole of differentiated relationships. Hold the two arrangements beside one another and examine what position makes available.

Select a sector or a named position. Compare the triangle, square, opposition, and functional counterpart. Scroll for the source-linked explanation.

A wheel of hue

Twelve samples of a continuous HSL hue cycle

The duodenary whole

Twelve positions, four elements, three modalities

The same indexed positions are highlighted on both wheels. Shared colors are a visual key; they do not assign physical hues to signs.

01 · Position within a whole

A coordinate has neighbors.

On the left, selecting a hue locates it relative to other hues. On the right, selecting Aries locates Cardinal Fire relative to all eleven other positions. A label becomes intelligible through its relationships.

This side-by-side comparison is a contemporary explanatory analogy. The course provides the twelvefold arrangement; the hue alignment is an editorial choice.

02 · Kinship through differentiation

One family, three positions.

Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius share Fire while occupying Cardinal, Fixed, and Mutable positions. Their triangle has step four: 0, 4, 8. Each edge spans 120 degrees.

The hue wheel shows the same angular construction. It does not make a color triad identical in meaning to the course’s Fire family.

03 · Another way of belonging

One modality, four elements.

Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn share Cardinal modality. Their square has step three: 0, 3, 6, 9. Each edge spans 90 degrees.

Triangle membership fixes the remainder modulo four. Square membership fixes the remainder modulo three. The number of vertices and the step size are different quantities.

04 · A specified counterpart

Opposition preserves a relation.

Cancer’s geometric antipode is Capricorn: 3 + 6 = 9 modulo twelve. In the course’s functional reading, this connects Individual Survival and its Reactor.

Across the hue wheel, 180 degrees identifies an opposite hue in this chosen color model. Different color models can give different complements.

05 · Distinctions matter

Cancer and Leo belong together differently.

The role-matched reform counterpart of Cancer is Leo. That relationship is described by 7 − x modulo twelve; it is not the antipode x + 6.

The left wheel now highlights the same two indexed positions for comparison. It asserts no special color-science relationship corresponding to this functional pairing.

The crossing

Two memberships at once.

Select a cell to locate that position on both wheels. The table uses the conventional Aries-origin element/modality indexing; the course’s diagrams and wording remain the source context.

These groups are not the same as Cardinal, Fixed, and Mutable. They connect survival, reactor, reform, and guide functions.

How to read the analogy

A model of relationships.

A color wheel arranges hue; color also involves saturation, lightness, and viewing conditions. The HSL cycle is not a wavelength spectrum, and its equal angle steps are not equal perceptual distances.

The comparison makes position, family, and angular relationship inspectable. Its universal application requires domain-specific correspondences, not twelve labels alone.

The course is more than the diagram

A vocabulary becomes an expression.

Lesson 13 compares the early instruction to an alphabet whose elements can now be combined. The sentence and its teaching context are part of the design.

Lesson 23 asks the teacher to question and elicit rather than simply impose.

Examples, distinctions, questions, qualifications, and returns develop the reader’s encounter with the organization. They remain available in the complete course.
